Facility Layout

Layout planning in chemical and pharmaceutical companies is highly affected by the concept of zones. Changing between zones required particular measures:

• Hygiene zones: Changes are only possible by using airlocked areas. Each area needs individual safety standards.
• Temperature / climatic zones: Change times have to be held as short as possible if the areas have been conditioned differently. Dwelling times outside of prescribed limits have to be documented.

All process steps have to be qualified and validated by the operator. Any changes to processes need renewed checks in order to ensure product safety.
