Process analysis – recording of the actual state and status of internal processes

The process analysis procedure is the standard building block and basis in our consulting projects. The aim of the process analysis is to identify weak points in the processes and potential for improvement with regard to increasing process stability, performance, profitability or ergonomics.

Our methods for process analysis are based on the following tools:

  • Analytics through data analysis of your inventory and movement data (e.g. from your warehouse management system and your ERP system)
    Checking of stocks, range of coverage analyses, lot sizes, access and movement structures, order and article structure.
  • Gemba-Walk: We go to the scene of the action, talk to operational staff, outline processes and document special features. For the consultants at IWL this provides direct and unbiased impressions of your processes and work-flows for pragmatic solutions.
  • By using visual process representation, such as a process flow chart, we offer project teams a digital medium to coordinate processes and procedures and to exchange information easily.

Process planning – optimization of the actual state and design of the target processes

First of all, we analyze the actual state, identify weak points and optimization potentials and then develop target processes in process planning. IWL relies on digital process planning in order to coordinate processes and exchange information easily.

These results are often used as a basis for tenders or specifications for warehouse technology or IT systems.

We apply this method of process analysis in manufacturing technology and production as well as in logistics. We pay particular attention to the principles of the 5S method, principles of lean management and the avoidance of waste.

During the optimization process we pay close attention to the integration of employees into the entire development process. Experience has shown that adapted or new processes are particularly well accepted by the operating department.

Material flow planning – efficiently designing the artery of logistic transports

Material flow planning is based on a holistic material flow concept comprising processes, areas and control. The processes optimized or reorganized according to lean logistics planning principles are stored in material flow planning with quantity flows. In the visualization of this planning, a weighted process diagram is created, which is called a Sankey diagram. Material flow planning is characterized by the idea of optimizing the shortest routes, taking into account the weighted material flow relations. Parallel to the material flow, the information flow is planned so that there is never an offset. This not only saves you time and money, but also protects the environment with your efficient material flow.

According to the planned material flows, suitable storage, transport and picking systems can then be selected to form the core of your individual logistics solution.
