Oberalp S.p.a. - SALEWA Headquarter

SALEWA

Our customer, the Oberalp Group with it’s headquarter in Bozen, is the leading company in sporting goods.
In this project we supported the design and implementation of the internal logistics.

SALEWA decided in 2009 to revitalise their logistics structures and to consolidate the main and the smaller warehouses into a new headquarter in Bozen. Besides the administration and an innovation and technology center, the whole logistics including distribution are centralized.

In this project we support the design and implementation of internal logistics.

The group employs 550 people and achieved a turnover of 194 million euros in 2013.

The company has set itself the target to support winter-sportspeople with the ideal equipment and supplies from hardware, to footwear and textiles all equipment for alpine sports and is one of the most important manufactures.

With the success of our brand SALEWA, the companies headquarter and the existing logistics strategy has become too inconvenient.

The desire to find a new home for the mountain sports brand was turning reality in fall 2011 with the move into the new headquarter.

The solution

A few years ago, the trendsports specialist operated a warehouse in Munich and Innsbruck as well as two large warehouses and several satellite warehouses in and around Bozen. This decentralized structures not only caused high operation costs, the capacity was on its limited by the continuous growth of the sortiment.

SALEWA decided in 2009 to revitalise their logistics structures and to consolidate the main and the smaller warehouses into a new headquarter in Bozen. Besides the administration and an innovation and technology center, the whole logistics including distribution are centralized.

The innovative and multifunctional building design makes the headquarters special. The optic of a mountain was used in the design and a climbing wall was installed.  The design of the building is from the Milan architects Cino Zucchi Architetti and Park Associati.

The building is packed with solar panels which offer more electricity than needed. For the combination of sustainablity and wellbeing, the building certified with the “Südtirol Award der Wirtschaft” in 2011, one of the most important awards of the country.

Salewa-0058140Articles like outdoor jackets, walking boots or skis are stored in about 11,000 m² area.

Thanks to the changes, SALEWA-Oberalp can handle up to 30,000 articles per shift. That means a performance growth of about 80%.

The 1,270 squaremeter large high rack warehouse offers a storage capacity of more than 3,250 pallets. The headquarter also offers 400 shelves on the floor for skis. In the manual block storage around 5,000 items are stored, which are too tall to pack into containers.

The highest throughput is realized in the automatic small parts warehouse.

With its 2,000m² area, it offers space for more than 97,000 pallet bays. This logistics concept optimized internal structures and reduced errors. Thus, the fast and flexible supply of their alpine and sports enthusiastic customers is ensured for a long term.
